Based in Brooklyn, New York, Matthew Houck (better known as Phosphorescent) came to Signal Kitchen on the heels of the release of his latest full-length album titled Muchacho. A multi-talented performer, Houck sings and plays guitar, piano, bass, ukulele, and drums. Prior to his adventures under the name Phosphorescent, Houck released music as “Fillup Shack” before moving to Athens, Georgia, changing his name, and releasing 5 more albums since 2003. His sound is a delicate and charming fusion of indie and alternative rock, folk, and a bit of pop. He is diverse in attitude and expression, sometimes exploring ambient and textural soundscapes and at other times engaging the listener with memorable and often catchy melodic ideas, all the while retaining a warm feeling of humility and authenticity that underline his writing and his stage presence. We were more than pleased to have Houck and his band perform with us in Burlington. Check out our video of Phosphorescent’s live performance of the song “Ride On/Right On.”
