A northern Virginia native now making in San Francisco, Andy Cabic is the front man for the American folk band Vetiver. As Cabic wrote about his newest album, Complete Strangers, “subtlety tries to be outgoing, loneliness familiar, in an effort to connect the dots of life’s ellipsis.” Back in September of 2012 Cabic and crew joined us at Signal Kitchen to connect a few more of those dots.
Throughout the night, the band captivated the crowd that gathered inside the venue through their ability to package real, impactful emotion inside of a mostly light-hearted and playful set. Subtle synth pads and keys blended with folksy guitar riffs which overlaid Cabic’s light and airy vocals to create an enigmatic timbre by blending the traditional with a taste of the modern. The group steps back and forth between classic folk vibes and more imaginative and enigmatic soundscapes – often straddling the line of both. Now, who’s willing to give up their dog for an afternoon next time Vetiver comes to town?
