Djeneba Seck – Live in Studio

Sometimes known as “The Preacher,” African singer Djeneba Seck came to us from Bamako, Mali and offered a wonderful session in our studio. As a girl, Seck was interested in theater and music, often performing in cultural shows in her hometown. She made the choice to pursue the life of an artist and received her first big break performing as a vocalist in Sekou Kouyate’s band who is most well known for their hit “N’Kadigon Ye.”

Continuing on from this success she performed with the Bamako district orchestra and eventually released her first solo project in 1991, followed by two more in 1996 and 1999. Her music spoke to her fellow countrymen and provided a source of beauty during a significant transitional phase in the Malian government. We were honored to have her bring a piece of African culture to Burlington.
