BADBADNOTGOOD – Live

Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, BADBADNOTGOOD are often described as a jazz band. This label is somewhat accurate, but doesn’t begin to describe the depth of the group’s influences. They have crossed genre boundaries in ways that are not often attempted. They step out of the bounds of traditional jazz stylings and venture confidently into hip-hop as evidenced by their collaborative work with the likes of Tyler, The Creator, Frank Ocean, Ghostface Killah, and more. Their live set is often just as eccentric, playing everything from original music to covers of electronic beat scene and future-beat tunes from artists like Flying Lotus and Hudson Mohawke, to deep hip-hop cuts from artists like Gucci Mane.

The band, consisting of Matthew Tavares on keyboards, Chester Hansen on bass, and Alexander Sowinski on drums, formed in 2010 when the trio met while attending the jazz program at Humber College in Toronto. Since then, they have gone on to release three studio albums: BBNG, BBNG2, and III. The year 2015 will mark the release of their fourth studio album, a highly-anticipated collaborative project with Ghostface Killah. We managed to record two live sets from 2013 and 2014 when the group came to our venue to perform for a lively Burlington crowd.
