The Middlebury College Activities Board (MCAB) is the largest student programming body on campus. The organization produces events ranging from large-scale concerts and powerful speakers to trivia nights, “stress busters,” and everything in between. MCAB enriches the quality of student life by providing innovative programming, upholding college traditions, and offering a platform for students to design and execute their own events. We started our relationship with Middlebury by helping to book and develop concerts on campus. As we learned more about the college and MCAB, we saw an opportunity to improve the internal structure and operations of the organization. We moved forward with the college to undertake two semesters of consulting and working directly with students to improve the events on campus.
Throughout the year, we held meetings with students and faculty to discuss event strategy concepts and work together through design, writing, and marketing exercises. With feedback from students, we developed a toolkit to help the organization in developing future projects. We created resources covering project management, logistics, branding, content strategy, and more. We worked with the board to organize the available human resources, identify new opportunities, and capitalize on the strengths of the organization in order to better reach the goal of delivering great events to the student body.
With the help of the design that we developed in conjunction with the students, we created a website that could showcase MCAB’s event programming and the hard work of all those associated with the organization. To conclude the semester, we met with students to teach them the fundamentals of web development and how to use the new platform to implement the marketing concepts learned throughout the year. We’re excited to continue our relationship with the college and make further progress toward the goal of enhancing campus events while improving the resources available for students to build their own ideas.
