Featuring lead singer Samuel T. Herring and other members of Future Islands, Lower Dens, and a slew of other bands, The Snails are self-described as a “teletubby reggae pop” group who performs dressed like—you guessed it—snails. The band has been described by Splice Today as “[not having] an ounce of goofiness or wink-wink pretension. These guys actually succeeded at making catchy, substantive songs about being a snail.” Initially formed to perform at a birthday party back in 2008, what started out as a cover band quickly turned into a full-blown creative project with the band writing and performing their own material. They released their debut 5-track EP Worth the Wait in 2013 on pink and green vinyl. The record is both airy and catchy while still paying tribute to their garage band days with hints of reggae and ska and a dash of blues and rock. Currently they’re touring and making plans for their next album which is set to be released in March 2016.
