Omara “Bombino” Moctar (born Goumour Almoctar) is a living legend of rock. His life began in 1980 in Tidene, Niger where we was raised in a nomadic Tuareg encampment. After political unrest in his home country forced him to flee, Bombino took up residence in Algeria where he began to teach himself to play music by copying songs he knew on a guitar left behind by relatives who were on the front line of the rebellion. After traveling to Libya and befriending local musicians who helped him hone his skills, Bombino finally recorded his first album with the help of a documentary film crew from Spain. Fast forward to the present and Bombino has established himself as an internationally recognized and critically acclaimed artist who has captivated audiences around the globe with socially conscious music about Tuareg culture, geopolitics, and the human condition. His latest album, Nomad, was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, and the album prior, Agadez, was released on Vermont’s own Cumbancha records.
