Singer-songwriter Ruby Amanfu is primed to become the next Nashville legend. Born in Accra, Ghana, Amanfu and her family moved to the southern music capital when she was the age of three. Surrounded by the city’s creative energy throughout her upbringing, she exhibited extraordinary talent from a young age. From winning elementary school talent contests, to singing with the Nashville Symphony Chorus and recording her first album in high school, to attending the prestigious music programs at Berklee College of Music and Belmont University, there has never been a doubt that she was on a path to create something special. Since then, Amanfu has collaborated with the likes of Norah Jones, Ben Folds, Kelly Clarkson, Jakob Dylan, among many more as a studio vocalist. In 2011, she sang with Jack White on “Love Interruption,” his first hit as a solo artist, and went on to perform at the 2013 Grammy Awards with White. Her latest work, Standing Still, was recorded in a secluded cabin in the Tennessee woods and takes shape as a collection of remarkably canorous covers from a selection of artists including Woodie Guthrie, Kanye West, Bob Dylan, and Irma Thomas, among others.
Co-headlining the night will be Dwight Ritcher and Nicole Nelson of the eponymously named Dwight & Nicole. Recently nominated for a New England Music Award, the duo are making significant waves with their multi-genre fusion of soul, jazz, folk, blues, pop, and more. The group is a product of their distinct tastes and influences and doesn’t strive to fit one genre model. Nelson has been quoted as saying “[…] in every moment, I’m a little bit different. And as I am feeling things, what I want to express becomes different.” Following their inner-voices has led them on the path to success, having performed with some of the greatest artists in the world including Wynton Marsalis, Chuck Berry, BB King, Dave Brubeck, and many others. Their latest work, Shine On, was self-released with the help of a crowd-funding campaign from Pledge Music in 2014.
