Vermont’s beloved Smugglers’ Notch mountain resort is a hive of opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts. Alongside skiing, hiking, water parks, and more, Smuggs offers some of the best disc golfing in the nation. The course has been a stop on the Disc Golf Pro Tour for several years and has even hosted the Pro Tour Championship. Smuggs connected with us to expand the scope and vision of its annual Fall disc golf event. After an initial conversation about booking bands and adding to the programming, we decided to start from the ground up in order to rediscover what the event means to the community and how we could develop a deeper connection between the heart of the Northeast Kingdom and a wider audience.
We worked with the Smugglers’ Notch team to evolve the concept of the event, create a graphic identity and all design assets, and build an efficient marketing strategy through community partnerships and public outreach. In addition, we handled the event production including sound, lights, stage, security, coordinating with vendors, ticketing, contracts, and advancing artists. We developed the programming of the event to include wonderfully talented artists and a host of outdoor activities.
The result was a successful event with an attendance in the thousands over multiple days (up from a few hundred the year before). Festival-goers enjoyed a lively celebration of the outdoors and the Northeast Kingdom with fantastic bands, amazing food and drink, and on-site activations including rock climbing, mountain biking, and fly fishing. The event now stands to be a strongly-held tradition in the area with even more growth potential that we’re excited to see come to fruition.
