Over the course of summer 2016, we got together with the not-for-profit community organization King Street Center and design studio Solidarity of Unbridled Labour to create an arts and media internship program for King Street Center youth culminating in an original song and benefit concert featuring Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars; designed, recorded, executed and planned by the interns themselves.

Meeting weekly during the months of June, July, and August ‘16, at both Sk and SoUL headquarters, a small group of teens from King Street Center learned about the fields of graphic design, sound recording, song writing, event production and marketing. Hands on workshops resulted in kid-crafted creations; design — a poster along with digital images, an original song featuring samples of Sierra Leon Refugee All Stars and a design plan for the event itself.

The event is open to the public. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to expenses of the internship program and event. All donations will benefit King Street’s general fund. Donate here: bit.ly/king-st-donate
